The Recovery Gap

Our special analysis of the latest CSO consumer spending data shows some surprising leaders and laggards when it comes to the recovery.

Some categories have not just returned to their previous peak, they are well ahead in terms of current expenditure (not adjusting for inflation).

Others haven't done so well, and are even further behind when total spending is adjusted for the fact that the population is 7% larger than in 2007, as shown by their relation to the dotted line (=100% of 2007 levels):
